Alaska Youth and Parent Foundation History
The Alaska Youth and Parent Foundation (AYPF) is a non-profit agency dedicated to serving the needs of runaway and homeless adolescents. AYPF was initially funded and incorporated in 1972 with Youth Development and Delinquency Prevention Act (H.E.W.) funds. The agency mandate was to provide legal information, advocacy and counseling services to youth at risk. In 1974, AYPF received its own direct funding through a grant from the Criminal Justice Planning Agency, a state agency under the Office of the Governor and controlled by the Governor's Commission on the Administration of Justice. In 1987, AYPF introduced Project Safe Place to Alaska. AYPF had almost 60 employees and operated two residential child care facilities offering mental health services for homeless, runaway and seriously emotionally disturbed youth.
